RECIFE, Brazil -- Moments after Tahiti succumbed to its third rout in three matches, the fans in Brazil really started to cheer for the team that never stood a chance. Babe Ruth Jersey . The South Pacific islanders enjoyed overwhelming support throughout the Confederations Cup, but the adulation reached a climax Sunday following Tahitis 8-0 loss to Group B rival Uruguay. Thats when the substitutes walked onto the field at the Arena Pernambuco carrying Brazilian flags and unfurling a large green and white banner with "Obrigado Brasil" printed on it. In English, that means "Thank You Brazil." "Weve been really pleasantly surprised by the love shown to us by the Brazilian public. Theyve supported us to the end," Tahiti forward Steevy Chong Hue said. "And wed like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts." Tahiti, a team of mostly amateur players who won the Oceania Nations Cup to qualify for the World Cup warm-up tournament, has been the adopted team of the Brazilian public. The purveyors of the "Beautiful Game" have been won over by Tahitis attack-minded pluckiness against insurmountable odds in matches against Nigeria, Spain and Uruguay. In those three matches, Tahiti was outscored 24-1. "Weve been routed three times. Weve been defeated," Chong Hue said. "But what was important for us was to represent our country and our values." For Uruguay, the point of Sundays match was to win and reach the semifinals. They did that, getting four goals from Abel Hernandez and two from second-half substitute Luis Suarez. The World Cup semifinalists, who left strikers Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani on the bench, will play Brazil in the semifinals on Wednesday in Belo Horizonte. "Fortunately for us, what had to happen, happened," Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said. Hernandez scored a first-half hat trick and added a penalty in the second half. Diego Perez and Nicolas Lodeiro also scored for the South American champions. Hernandezs first goal, a header which came 1 minute, 19 seconds into the match, is the fastest to be scored in the history of the World Cup warm-up tournament, according to FIFA. But Tahiti goalkeeper Gilbert Meriel stopped the final score from getting worse by saving a penalty from Andres Scotti in the 50th minute. One minute later, Scotti was sent off with a second yellow card. Tahiti even managed to create a few chances, perhaps the best when Marama Vahirua, the teams only professional football player, shot at Uruguay goalkeeper Martin Silva in the 34th for an easy save. "My players really played with their souls, with all their hearts. This is what was important for us," Tahiti coach Eddie Etaeta said. "At the end of the game today, they made a point of thanking the Brazilian public ... This is what we will take back with us from Brazil." Earlier in the half, Tahiti defender Teheivarii Ludivion was given a yellow card in the eighth minute for bringing down Matias Aguirregaray, the first caution the team had received at the tournament. He was then sent off for a second yellow in the 59th. Chong Hue and Tahiti captain Nicolas Vallar also received yellow cards. "During the game you get carried away," Chong Hue said. "We shouldnt regret anything." Meriel, who dived to his left to stop Scottis penalty and then scrambled to control the loose ball, was the third different goalkeeper to start for Tahiti in the teams three matches at the competition. Xavier Samin played in the 6-1 loss to Nigeria in the opening match last Monday, and Mikael Roche was in goal for the 10-0 drubbing against Spain on Thursday. Those three losses, however, wont be as memorable for the Tahitians as just being in Brazil to take part in a major tournament against some of the worlds best players. "Its a real dream for us, because three, four, five years ago we would never have imagined being here playing with the best players in the world," Chong Hue said. "Its been a great pleasure to play these countries, these players." Atlanta Braves Store . Robinson finished with 17 points, all but two in the second half, and Lawson had 14 after halftime and finished with a game-high 11 assists as the Nuggets handed Dallas its first home loss in eight games this season. J.J. Hickson led Denver with 22, and Kenneth Faried added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Swarzak Jersey . Catch all the action on TSN2 at 11pm et/8pm pt. Breaking three of his own world records on his way to winning in Paris, Chan silenced the critics and left the audiences standing in appreciation and awe. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs coach Andy Reid called the prognosis of Jamaal Charles all positive on Wednesday, increasing the likelihood that the injured running back finally will get on the field this weekend.Charles has not played since Week 5 last season, when he tore the ACL in his right knee. He was back on the field for training camp and has been splitting time with the scout team and first team in practice, but the four-time Pro Bowl selection has not been active for a game.Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West have been filling in for him .You know, I think the longer you can wait with him the better it is, Reid said, even though I think he probably thought he could play today, or tomorrow or whatever. I just think well see how this week goes. Another week I think it going to help him.The Chiefs play the New York Jets on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.Charles could provide a jolt for an offense that has been slow out of the gates . Kansas City has only managed a field goal in the first half of each of its games. The resulting deficits have forced the Chiefs to abandon their run game, easily the strongest part of their offense. Kansas City is averaging 5.4 yards per carry, fourth best in the league, but is only handing off 19 times a game -- more than only five other teams. With a quarterback in Alex Smith who excels at controlling tempo, the Chiefs have been unable to dictate the pace of games with their deep stable of running backs. Its frustrating, West said, but in the end it all falls back on us. We have to get the offense going, make sure we dont get in those situations where we need to rely on the passing game. I mean, we got to take responsibility for that too, get the offense going.Charles is certainly not going to fix all of the Chiefs ills, but if he iss truly close to 100 percent, his game-breaking ability is unlike anything Kansas City has on offense. Tyler Flowers Jersey. Even his understudies appear willing to admit it.I mean, hes Jamaal Charles, West said. Hes been back, for me, in my eyes, for a while. The Chiefs actually got by quite well without Charles last season, ripping off 10 straight regular-season victories and winning a postseason game. But nobody in the Kansas City locker room Wednesday was under any pretense that the Chiefs are better off without him.Who knows when we get him back? Thats obviously up to the docs and how hes feeling, Smith said. But hes a one-of-a-kind player, without a doubt. Theres not many guys who have that skill set and those capabilities. Whenever we get him back, were going to be happy to have him. This week would be an opportune one: The Jets have one of the most fearsome defensive fronts in the NFL, one that is allowing just over 71 yards rushing per game.I think the way our backs are playing right now, the way Spencer and Charcandrick are playing, its nice not to have that pressure and hurry (Charles) back when hes not ready, Smith said. These guys have been really dynamic for us. Its nice for the organization, the coaches and Jamaal not to get pressured. They can make the right decision for his health.Game notes SS Eric Berry had some knee swelling, but was on the practice field Wednesday. OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff (ankle) also planned to work out. ... LB Sam Barrington (hamstring), OL Jah Reid (ankle/knee) and OL Parker Ehinger (concussion) did not participate.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' ' c
