CVSTOS Challenge Sealiner Chronograph 5N Red Gold. Teak dial and marine notes. CVSTOS was founded in 2005 by Sassoun Sirmakes (son of Vartan Sirmakes, president of Franck Muller Watchland Group) and Antonio Terranova, a trained microtechnologist with a passion for watch design. Together they have been creating watches of such unique appearance and craftsmanship for almost 20 years that it is hard to believe today that this unique watch brand was founded when Sassoun was only 21 years old. CVSTOS designs are always exploring uncharted territory, such as the dial of this Challenge Sealiner Chronograph, whose teak baseplate is reminiscent of the deck of a yacht.
The CVSTOS Challenge Sealiner Chronograph is available in different metals, including stainless steel, 5N navy blue steel, 5N sky blue steel, 5N red gold, and transparent sapphire crystal.
The tonneau-shaped case of the CVSTOS Challenge Sealiner Chronograph ref. C01107.4125001 is made of 5N red gold and measures 53.7 mm x 41 mm. It combines a solid 5N red gold case with grade 5 titanium elements, including the pushers, case inserts, screw-down crown with rubber insert (matching the strap color), case back with sapphire crystal, buckle, strap screws and bezel screws.
The teak dial of this watch has a unique and elegant look, inspired by the teak used on ship decks, which often have a grainy striped pattern that mimics the look of wood. The dial base consists of a varnished teak board with rhodium-colored decorative applique markings and rings around the chronograph subdials. The dial features a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, a 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock (with a 15-minute race countdown), a running-seconds indicator in the shape of a ship's propeller, and a linear date/day display at 3 o'clock. The turquoise, navy, and red accents on the dial create a beautiful contrast.
The applied hour markers, the skeletonized hour and minute hands, and even the small chronograph hand are coated with a bright SuperLumiNova coating.
The case construction is very complex, including titanium inserts and the CVSTOS emblem, a porthole on the left case band with an oval sapphire crystal opening (partially visible for the movement), and a chronograph pusher shaped like a ship's bolt (the metal part is tied with ropes), giving the watch a strong marine feel. The watch comes with a turquoise rubber strap that matches the color of the seconds hand, the decoration on the dial, and the rubber insert on the screw-down crown.
Flipping the Challenge Sealiner Chronograph over to reveal the titanium caseback and sapphire crystal, you can see the automatic CVSTOS Caliber CVS857. This movement offers a 48-hour power reserve and beats at 28,800 vph. The movement is equipped with a three-spoke, fully skeletonized tungsten rotor.
The CVSTOS Challenge Sealiner Chronograph 5N Red Gold is very comfortable on the wrist and has an incredible wrist presence. This watch will take you to the turquoise waters of the Amalfi Coast or Portofino. The exquisite teak dial has a very unique look and is very well made, almost making you feel like you are looking at a miniature yacht deck on your wrist. For the price, this watch is great value, looks great and is very unique. It is the kind of watch you will want to wear when you are sailing the seven seas on a Benetti yacht.
