The case of the RM 16-02 is 36mm wide, 45.64mm long and just 9.5mm thick, retaining the ergonomic curves that Richard Mille watches are known for. It is 10% smaller than the original RM016. The three-part case (comprising the bezel, caseback and back) required complex machining and assembly using 12 grade 5 titanium screws and wear-resistant washers, ensuring durability and water resistance up to 30 meters.

The RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat is available in two different case variants. The first is the familiar full grade 5 titanium, micro-blasted and satin-finished with polished bevels for added 3D effect. The second, arguably the more striking of the two, is the new Terracotta Quartz TPT®, a warm and striking colourway and a first for Richard Mille replica watches reviews. This unique hue is achieved through an advanced process whereby ultra-thin silica threads (just 45 microns in diameter) are impregnated with a colored matrix, stacked at a 45° angle between the layers, and subjected to high temperatures and pressures (120°C at 6 bar). The result is a raw composite that is milled into the case, sitting atop a creamy white Quartz TPT® caseband for a striking contrast.

Its dimensions – 26mm wide, 31.25mm long and just 4.12mm thick – highlight its ultra-thin profile, which fits perfectly into the sleek rectangular case.

The movement incorporates several notable features, including a free-sprung balance with variable inertia, which increases reliability when subjected to shocks and delivers excellent chronometric results over the long term. There is no regulator hand on the balance, instead there are four adjustable weights, ensuring precise calibration and consistent timekeeping.

To maximise winding efficiency, Caliber CRMA9 features a platinum rotor with titanium weights, running via the One Way® commutation system mounted on ceramic ball bearings. The fast-rotating barrel completes a full rotation every five hours (rather than 7.5 hours), minimising mainspring sticking and optimising performance, delivering a 50-hour power reserve. As expected from Richard Mille, the movement is superbly finished, with intricate skeletonisation and finishing, including hand-polished bevels, micro-blasted surfaces and hand-polished chamfers.

Judging from some of Richard Mille’s recent social media posts, the brand doesn’t want to be categorized simply as a maker of tonneau-shaped watches. The company is at pains to remind us that it has made rectangular cases, round models, asymmetrical watches, and ultra-thin watches. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Richard Mille has chosen to go with angular silhouettes for its first 2025 models.
